Review: Elluminate Bluetooth Spotlight Garden Kit & Garden Bollard from Bunnings

If you’re looking to give your garden a modern and functional lighting upgrade, the Elluminate Bluetooth Spotlight Garden Kit and Garden Bollards from Bunnings are worth a look—especially if you’re into smart home tech and minimalist outdoor setups.

What’s in the Box?

The Garden Kit comes complete with:

  • 4 metal spotlights
  • A Transformer
  • A Bluetooth controller
  • 10m & 4x1m Cables

We also purchased 10 Elluminate Garden Bollards, which connect serially with the spotlights as part of the same lighting circuit. This makes it easy to expand your setup while maintaining a neat and unified look.

Installation is straightforward, and Bunnings stocks additional cables and connectors if you want to extend the setup further. The construction is solid, with a quality metal build that feels durable and weather-ready. As expected, the units are waterproof, making them suitable for year-round outdoor use.

Smart Features (With Some Caveats)

The standout feature here is the Bluetooth connectivity. Using the Elluminate app, you can control your lights from your smartphone. No Wi-Fi or hubs needed—it’s all local and simple.

That said, there are a few quirks:

  • The app is very basic, with only two modes: Auto (which turns the lights on/off based on ambient light) and Manual (where you set a schedule).
  • Because it’s Bluetooth-based, anyone nearby with the app can potentially control your lights. There’s no pairing security, which feels like a missed opportunity.
  • Also, all the lights work with white lights only—there’s no option to change colours or adjust warmth.

What Could Be Better?

There’s definitely room to improve this system:

  • Bluetooth pairing security would prevent unauthorized access and give users peace of mind.
  • The system already uses a lux sensor for the Auto mode, but doesn’t expose that data to the user. Being able to see and customize actions based on lux readings would make the kit feel a lot smarter.
  • A more capable app with scene modes, remote access (via a bridge), and multi-user control would elevate the experience significantly.

Final Thoughts

The Elluminate Bluetooth Spotlight Garden Kit is a solid option for those wanting a clean, wireless, and expandable garden lighting solution. It’s great hardware paired with bare-minimum software. For casual use, it gets the job done. But for smart home enthusiasts, it feels isolated from central control systems like Home Assistant.

Next steps: What I plan to do next is integrate this setup into my smart home ecosystem. I’ll be replacing the Bluetooth controller with a Shelly 1 plus, allowing me to control the lights using Home Assistant and bring everything under one roof.
